Federal Workers Divided on RTO Mandate, Survey Finds

A recent survey shows that US government employees are divided in their support for President Trump’s Federal RTO mandate.

The survey, a Washington Post-Ipsos poll reported on by The Hill, found that 50% do not support the return to office mandate, while 49% support it.

85% percent of those surveyed whose jobs could be done remotely did not support the RTO mandate. On the other side, 70% of workers whose jobs cannot be done remotely supported the policy change.

The survey also shows that about 20% of federal employees are looking for a new job. 37% said their jobs could be done from home. That number increases to 46% if Postal workers are not included. Additionally, a third of the employees surveyed said they had not been assigned a desk or workspace at an office.

This survey comes as a major shakeup is taking place in the federal workforce, led by President Trump and Elon Musk’s Department Of Government Efficiency. Shortly after taking office, President Trump issued an executive order mandating a federal RTO policy. This was followed by Musk warning federal workers to return to the office or risk being placed on leave.
