Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the President of the Philippines, approved a new digital nomad visa program for his country. Marcos signed Executive Order No. 86 on April 24, 2025.

The Executive Order lays out the process for establishing the new visa program, and also authorizes the Department of Foreign Affairs to issue the visas.

President Marcos said:

“To further boost tourism and economy in the country, there is a need to establish a legal framework to facilitate the entry of digital nomads in the country, or foreign nationals who desire to temporarily stay in the Philippines while engaging in remote work activities for overseas employers or clients.”

The Executive Order is similar to a bill introduced earlier this year.

Conditions

To obtain the new digital nomad visa, a remote worker must meet several conditions. First, they must be at least 18 years old and show proof of being employed with remote work. They must also provide proof of sufficient income, have valid health insurance, and not be employed in the Philippines. An applicant must also have no criminal record and not pose a threat to the security of the country.

The key condition, however, is that an applicant must be a citizen of a country that allows digital nomad visas for Filipinos. This excludes several countries, such as the USA, Germany, Australia, Singapore, and the UK.

Countries that currently have digital nomad visa programs that allow Filipinos include Italy, Hungary, Greece, Indonesia, the UAE, Spain, Cyprus, and South Korea, among others.

If an applicant is approved, they may stay in the Philippines for up to one year. They may also renew their visa for an additional year.
