FlipKart is ending its work from home policy

Flipkart, the Walmart-backed e-commerce giant, has announced it is ending its work from home policy, requiring all 22,000 employees to return to the office five days a week.

A spokesperson for the company said:

“At Flipkart, the vast majority of our employees and contractual and gig workforce, especially those in field roles, have always operated from their respective locations of work. In our corporate headquarters, we have been pursuing a gradual return to the office for the past year and have seen increased interactions, synergies and deeper collaboration across teams.

By returning to office, we aim to foster a strong sense of community for new hires and existing employees; and a shared focus on our common goals.”

The policy shift ends a flexible remote work arrangement the company adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Flipkart’s WFH policy change also comes as the company gears up for its IPO within the next 12 to 15 months. The transition to in office work will take place in phases over the coming months, with limited work from home days and some exceptions for certain roles.

This move positions Flipkart alongside competitors like Amazon, Meesho, and Blinkit, which have also mandated full-time office attendance. Flipkart was one of the last significant Indian E-commerce companies that still allowed remote work.
