Cyprus Opens Applications For New Digital Nomad Visa

Cyprus recently began accepting applications for its new digital nomad visa.
The news was announced in a press release by the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection:
“The Scheme aims at attracting nationals from non-EU and non-EEA countries and allows them to reside in Cyprus as long as their services are provided through information technology for companies or clients located abroad.
The Scheme’s goal is to strengthen Cyprus as a centre for the provision of electronic services, where in combination with the other advantages offered by Cyprus, the attraction of digital nomads will contribute to the development of the business ecosystem and consequently to the economic development of the country.”
About the visa
The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa Scheme was originally approved in 2021. The program has a limit of 500 residence permits and targets non-EU and non-EEA citizens who work remotely, either for a foreign company or for themselves. Applicants need to “prove that they have stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3500 (after the deduction of contributions and taxes).”
Individuals who are approved for the visa can live in Cyprus for one year, with the possibility to renew for two additional years. Family members may “reside in Cyprus for the same period as the Digital Nomad.” However, they will need to obtain a temporary residence permit.
Applicants will need to pay €70 for a temporary residence permit, and €70 for registration to the Alien’s Registry.
The processing time is between five and seven weeks.
Cyprus, and island nation located in the Mediterranean, offers over 300 days of sunshine a year along with mountains, beaches, ancient history, and rich culture. The country also has an affordable cost of living and a low crime rate, and provides flexibility to travel within Europe.
