Taiwan recently launched a new Digital Nomad Visitor Visa. The visa is good for six months and is open to citizens of Visa-Exempt countries. This includes the US and Canada, as well as several Central and South American, European, and Asia/Pacific countries.
However, there are some requirements to qualify, such as a valid passport and proof of remote work experience. Nomads will also need one of the following: “Proof of having obtained digital nomad visa issued by another country, proof of earning an annual salary of at least US$40,000 or its equivalent in one of the last two years (for ages 30 and older), or proof of having earned an annual salary of at least US$20,000 or its equivalent in one of the last two years (ages 20-29).” Proof of bank deposits and international health insurance are also required.
According to several sources, the goal is to attract foreign talent to boost the economy and increase investments. Reportedly, the government wants to bring in 100,000 digital nomads.
Taiwan may be an interesting option for digital nomads to consider. From modern cities like Taipei to scenic coastal areas, Taiwan offers a unique experience and a reasonable cost of living.
It is important to note that tensions between Taiwan and China are currently high. Any decision to try working remotely in Taiwan as a digital nomad should take this into account.
